The American Marketing Association hosted the 2022 International Collegiate Conference in Chicago, IL. Southwest Minnesota State University was represented by 6 student leaders (left to right): Andrew Miller, Andre Adame, Maria Valentin, Juliana Villa, Gabriel Camargo, & Trevor Van Keulen; alongside SMSU's academic advisors, Dr. Denise Gochenouer & Dr. Marta Almeyda-Ibanez.
Throughout the conference, students took part in competitions, professional development opportunities, and incredible presentations covering anything from networking to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This was the first in-person meeting since the COVID-19 pandemic had pushed the annual conference to a digital setting. After an intense and exciting week, the conference closed with an awards ceremony announcing winners from the various competitions and projects students had been working on all year long.
SMSU was awarded the $1,500 Simpli.fi Community Service Grant
"The Simpli.fi AMA Foundation Collegiate Chapter Community Service Grant will be awarded to AMA Collegiate Chapters in good standing that has proposed a community service project that aims to strengthen the marketing program and support a local or national nonprofit organization through an innovative and creative approach using marketing." Mindful Meals launched in 2021, with the goal of closing the hunger gap in Southwest Minnesota. Beginning with K-12 students, and into the SMSU Mustang Market, Mindful Meals has teamed up with local companies to serve nourishing meals to those in need. This project has taken off thanks to the hard work and direction of student leaders Valerie Messner and Stephen Zimmer.
This project has brought together students of all different backgrounds and areas of study, in addition to community members and businesses throughout the area. As Mindful Meals continues to grow, we are always looking for additional support! Whether you are looking to volunteer, or help out the project through finances or resources, fill out our contact form today to get involved!
Additional recognition to Southwest Minnesota State University included 5th place in the Sabre Business Simulation, 3rd place for #GivingTuesday, and a Top 3 Small AMA Chapter.
